Conference: Crossfields of Arnside and their Boats

Conference: Crossfields of Arnside and their Boats Saturday 16th March

Crossfields of Arnside were leading builders of yachts and Morecambe Bay Prawners from 1840s to 1940s. Around 40 of their boats survive including Severn, which the Sailing Club brought with a Heritage Lottery Grant in 2018.

The conference covers the history of Crossfields, Severn, Morecambe Bay Prawners and the Arthur Ransome connection.

There will be talks from visiting owners of Crossfields boats including 'Bonita' built in Arnside in 1888, the oldest boat to take part in a Round Britain Event in 2013, 'Moya' second in her class in 1975 Fastnet Race, featured in an Italian documentary film, now kept in Greece and 'Maryll' 1938 a former European champion based in the Netherlands.
