Discover Sailing Day attract 65 participants

Arnside Sailing Club Try Sailing Day on Monday (May 4th) attracted 65 people. Participants got a chance to sail across Arnside’s scenic estuary in boats helmed by club members. The Try Sailing Day is part of a national Discover Sailing promotion by the RYA with sailing clubs up and down the country giving people the chance to try out sailing, With boats sailing across the estuary, there was a holiday atmosphere in the village.

Jane Caldwell, Arnside Sailing Club’s Commodore “It was great to see many people out on the estuary enjoying themselves. Thank you to everyone who came and for all our volunteers who made the event possible.”

As well as sailing the club now offers paddle boarding, windsurfing and canoeing. It offers water sports lesson at both Arnside and at Killington near Sedbergh. The Club has 20 club boats, as well as kayaks and paddle boards, which are available for use by members. Membership fees for a family are £95 a year and £85, one of the lowest in the country. The Club is charity promoting water-sports.

Jane continued “If you want to learn how to sail, we offer sailing courses at Killington Reservoir near Sedbergh, where we are RYA Training Centre for adults and children, including one at half term. We also run lessons for schools and groups.”

“Our Clubhouse in the Old Customs House is used as a community and music events.
