Help us sail and maintain Severn.
To sail on Severn, you need to be a member of Arnside Sailing Club and pay the Severn supplement. In 2026 individual membership of the Sailing Club was £85 and the Severn supplement £20, which at £105 a year to sail a historic boat is excellent value for money, plus you can also take part in other Sailing Club activities. Being part of Severn's crew is also a great way of making new friends.
We are at present still getting used to sailing Severn. However we envisage offering a programme of short half day sails from Roa Island near Barrow, where she is based and longer voyages across Morecambe Bay to Fleetwood, Glasson, Morecambe and Arnside,
Severn can carry up to three crew (At a pinch four). We need an experienced skipper and crew on her at all times, We aiming to build up a pool of experienced skippers and crew so that Severn can sail on a frequent basis.
In winter there is a programme of maintenance, for example painting and varnishing the boat or servicing the engine. Initially there will not be much maintenance to do, though this will build up over time. As well Severn, there is the tender, launching trailer and mooring to look after. During summer there is occasional maintenance work as required.
