Sailing Instructions 2010
Rules
All races will be
sailed under I.S.A.F. rules, the R.Y.A.
prescriptions and appropriate class rules except
as stated hereafter.
Classes
There will be two classes, fast handicap (PYN<1101)
and slow handicap (PYN>1100). The two classes
will be started as one and will sail the same
course except that the fast handicap may sail
more laps than the slow. All results will be
calculated on an average lap time basis.
Scoring System
The scoring system will be:
First, 1 pt: Second 2pts etc. OODs and Rescue
Boat crew will be allowed percentage points
based upon all races started by that person. A
maximum of one percentage result per three races
started will be allowed. The number of races to
count for the overall results will be ‘50% + 1’.
Courses
Courses will be indicated on the course board by
the OOD at least 20 minutes before the start of
each race.
Starting and Finishing Line
The starting line will normally be the club
starting line defined by the poles at the dinghy
park. On occasion the start line may have an
inner and/or outer distance mark as indicated on
the course board.
Starting Signals
Starting signals will be at three minute
intervals. Boards will be displayed with sound
signals as follows:
6 minutes: red
board displayed and one sound signal.
3 minutes: red board hidden, green board
displayed and one sound signal.
Start: both boards hidden and one sound signal.
Recalls
When any boats are recalled a second sound
signal will be made and a board bearing the
letter S displayed. The OOD may indicate when
specific boats are recalled but the onus of
determining compliance lies with the boat(s). In
the event of a general recall two extra sound
signals will be made and a board bearing the
letter S will be displayed. The starting
sequence may be restarted at the OOD’s
discretion.
Shortening Course
In order to shorten course the OOD will display
a board displaying the letter S and make one
sound signal as the leading boat approaches the
last mark of a lap. Subsequently all boats
should finish the lap which they are currently
sailing.
Time Limit
The time limit for the leading boat shall be two
hours. Any boat which finishes more than 30
minutes behind the leading boat will be deemed
to have retired.
Personal Safety
All helmsmen and crew must wear adequate
personal buoyancy when racing. Wet or dry suits
are strongly recommended.
Insurance/Signing On
All competing dinghies must have adequate third
party insurance to a minimum of £500,000. A
declaration to this effect must be signed on
each race day.
Signing Off
A declaration that the boat has sailed the
correct course and complied with the rules or
has retired from the race must be signed within
30 minutes of finishing each race or in the case
of a fixed keel boat, as soon as practically
possible after the race.
